About Wild Wild South

The Wild Wild South is a biennial international multisports tournament organized by Abseitz Stuttgart, the sports club for gays, lesbians and friends in the Stuttgart region.

Debuting in 1996 as a volleyball tournament, it has grown into a three day event with competitions and workshops in several sports and an extensive supporting programme. In previous events up to 500 guest from more than 15 countries have made their way to Stuttgart for a welcoming sportive spring weekend.

The Wild Wild South history reflects Abseitz’ development as a sports club. While only Badminton and Volleyball were offered both in the club’s regular training and at the annual tournament in the 1990s and the majority of club members and tournament participants were men, Abseitz grew enourmously in the early 2000s. New sport departments were created, and the percentage of women in the club multiplied. In order to be able to include new sports and separate women’s competitions into the tournament and to manage the more complex organization it was decided in 2002 to hold future Wild Wild Souths only in odd years.

These changes have paid off: Competitions in swimming, football, squash and shooting and workshops in Yoga, dance and fitness have become a central part of any WWS ever since. Tennis, wrestling and table tennis have already been on the agenda, too. Apart from the sports, each tournament has offered a great supporting programme which traditionally includes a party on Saturday and a brunch on Sunday as well as cultural specials or a guided city tour. Hence, the Wild Wild South is not only a sports event, but a place for fun, friendship and meeting new people.

In 2021, due to the global pandemic, the tournament had to be postponed for a year. In 2022, however, the 17th Wild Wild South will once more be exclusively organized by volunteers on a honorary basis. We are proud of this commitment in our club and – due to years of experience - to succeed each time to organize the Wild Wild South on a high and professional level.

Our aim is to offer an environment for sports, exchange and celebrating in an open atmosphere, without prejudice and beyond the limits of the LGBT community. Everyone is welcome to play, dance, move, swim, meditate, walk, party and enjoy together with us.
Abseitz Stuttgart is looking forward to seeing you and wishes everyone a good time!
